Political Storm in Keralam: BJP Demands Pinarayi Vijayan Step Down as Opposition Leader Following Fresh ED Disclosures

Political friction in Keralam reached a boiling point after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanded the immediate resignation of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan from his post as Leader of the Opposition. The sharp ultimatum came on the heels of new disclosures released by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding its ongoing money laundering investigation into Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL) and Exalogic Solutions, an IT enterprise promoted by Vijayan’s daughter, T. Veena.
The ED’s latest investigative findings stem from searches conducted across multiple premises, yielding handwritten financial ledgers and digital evidence. According to statement filings by the agency, seized documents outline overseas fund transactions totaling AED 349,000 (roughly ₹85 lakh) routed toward Dubai, alongside unrecorded domestic transactions amounting to ₹20.05 crore. Federal investigators further revealed that CMRL allegedly transferred ₹2.78 crore directly to Exalogic Solutions under the guise of IT consultancy fees without receiving operational deliverables. Devices confiscated during the searches also contained encrypted communication records linked to proxy-registered SIM cards used in Wi-Fi routers.
Addressing journalists in Kochi, BJP State Vice President Shone George spearheaded the offensive, arguing that Vijayan has lost the moral ground to serve as Opposition Leader. Invoking past political statements, George asserted that Vijayan should adhere to the exact ethical standards he once demanded of political rivals during previous corruption controversies. The BJP further alleged that payments made by private corporate entities to firms owned by immediate family members of high public officials represent disguised kickbacks rather than valid commercial agreements.
In response, leaders from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) dismissed the assertions as politically driven attacks executed through central enforcement agencies. Representatives maintained that all funds received by Exalogic Solutions constituted legitimate remuneration for contracted professional services. As the Enforcement Directorate and the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) continue their probes, the allegations remain actively under judicial scrutiny.
